Hello!
I'm Mickie,
a writer, surfer, & sommelier, + the owner of The Buzzed Word bookshop, natural wine shop, & bar in Ocean City, Maryland.

I do many things. But first, always, and forever, I’m a writer. Of many things. For publications, primarily essays and longform feature journalism; and my own monthly-ish newsletter, Wax On, about the practices of life through the lens of surfing and experiences in grief. I have a memoir borne from that newsletter currently on submission, and a novel on submission as well; two more are in the works. I hold an MFA in Fiction from The New School, where I was a Creative Writing Fellow. (For inquiries, see my agent’s information below.)

I spent 12 years in New York City, where I also did a lot: 10+ years as a creative copywriter and editor for many brands; Events Director for Guernica, where I also did interviews and book reviews; co-host of the writer's variety show, Same Page, at KGB Bar; and host of a literary/wine reading series called Books & Bottles, from my Instagram, The Buzzed Word—which would become a physical store in 2021.

I moved back to my hometown of Ocean City, Maryland in 2020, for family; and stay to open my store where I could champion diverse books and natural wine in my hometown—visit it here, and read about my journey to open it here. You can find me there, bartending and book-slinging, most days, and surfing every moment I’m not. This is the only social media I have.
